Building bridges

Mikas is an independent Dutch company, founded in 1996. It supports and advises Spanish companies in the construction, architecture, and design sectors on their export activities in the Netherlands, and also assists Dutch companies with their operations in Spain.

The company provides an important link between Spain and the Netherlands for its partners. Mikas architecture bridges cultural differences and provides clarity on various areas of construction and architecture.

What’s more, the best way of entering the central and northern European markets is through the front door: the Netherlands! Thanks to its geographical location, and extensive knowledge and experience in international trade available in the Netherlands, it offers direct and easy access to other markets within Europe.

Mission

Our vocation is to contribute creatively to the unification of Europe. To perceive relations between Dutch and Spanish projects, between their designs and products, craftmanship, languages and forms of expression and, know how to combine, connect and support them for a succesful, innovative cooperation between countries.

Our work is about strengthening ties between countries, companies en people, and breaking down (language) barriers. We mediate between cultures. Translation and interpretation work are woven into our daily activities, but they also form a separate profession within the company.

We provide specialized interpretation and translation services in Dutch <> Spanish for the construction and architecture sector, for the legal sector, and for various areas of the national government.

Mikas was founded in 1996 by Karen-Elisenda Sanz. She graduated in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Barcelona, successfully completed the Dutch-Spanish translation program at Hogeschool West-Nederland Vertalen & Tolken in The Hague, and passed the Spanish <> Dutch comprehensive interpreter exam at C1 level on the CEFR.

Both languages are her native languages. She has over 20 years of experience in translating primarily technical construction and legal texts, thanks to her unique combination of civil engineer and technical translator, as well as extensive experience as a (court) interpreter.

She is registered as a sworn Spanish interpreter-translator with the Court of Breda and in the Register of Sworn Interpreters and Translators (Rbtv). She is also a member of the Order of Registered Interpreters and Translators (ORT&V).
